Visit to the Marble Quarries

The marble quarries have been the economic and social hub of the Apuan territory for at least two millennia. Corchia Park offers the opportunity to visit some of these stone cathedrals, carved into the white marble heart of the mountain.

VISIT ROUTE

Once you arrive at the quarry, you put on protective helmets and enter the immense marble rooms. Visiting a quarry means entering a spectacular environment that is completely different from anything you may have seen before.

The quarry does not respect the human dimension, the quarry has the dimensions of giants, ceilings tens and tens of meters high, enormous rooms, gigantic blocks and excavation vehicles weighing up to 80 tons.

The Versilia quarries are the only ones overlooking the sea; from here you can dominate a spectacular landscape that goes from the French Alps, to Corsica, up to Mount Amiata.

4X4 ADVENTURE

The visit lasts about 2 and a half hours, starting and returning from the town of Levigliani.

To reach the quarry we will use 4×4 vehicles of the Italian Army, which we have restored and converted for civilian use: a unique adventure, among breathtaking landscapes and unique places in the world.

QUARRY, HISTORY AND TERRITORY

For over a thousand years, the marble quarries have been the economic cornerstone of this region, shaping the culture and history of the communities inhabiting the mountains. Our guides will introduce you to the world of quarry workers and the inseparable bond between marble and the community of the village of Levigliani.

This environment commands respect, both for the wild forces that inhabit it and for the generations of people who have labored here with effort and sacrifice, ensuring a future for their community.
