The community of Levigliani is one of the last “Comunelli” in Tuscany, with collective ownership of its territory held in common and undivided. Over time, its residents have sought a way to work freely and establish a model of a “community supply chain” to redistribute the economic value created through social projects and activities to all members of the resident community. They have strived to enhance the value of their community by prioritizing collaboration and collective well-being.

"LAVORARE LIBERI MUSEUM"
The community of Levigliani has been closely tied to the marble extraction activities in the Apuan Alps for centuries. Unlike other places, the residents of Levigliani have, through historical circumstances, managed to obtain direct management of the extraction sites and organize work in a cooperative form, allowing all members of the community to have access to work without being dependent on external companies.
Levigliani has become a true laboratory, even before its time, for the successful management of common goods. To this day, the resources of the village are administered by a Commission of Common Goods, a unique body made up of the village inhabitants. This incredible history of collective organization, entrepreneurship, and equality has received significant recognition over the years, including from the President of the Republic. Today, the “Lavorare Liberi” museum offers visitors a testimony of this economic and social history through objects, documents, and testimonials.
"PIETRA PIEGATA" MUSEUM
The ease of working with marble, combined with its pure white color and spectacular veining, has made it a privileged material in sculpture and stonework over the centuries. The Museo della Pietra Piegata (Museum of Bent Stone) provides an overview of marble processing throughout the ages, showcasing everything from rough objects to finely inlaid works, from common artifacts to sacred pieces. The artisanal skill in working with this precious material, which still exists in the local area today, finds its testament in this museum, allowing us to trace a trajectory from its history to the future. Particularly fascinating are the stone works of funerary art dating back to the period of the Apuan Ligurians (3rd century BC), discovered in the nearby necropolis.
